On the left, a passenger train (possibly the very last one) taking the Wooler Branch. Today this is the “parting of the ways” on the “railway” footpaths.
On the right the same train returning to Coldstream (Cornhill) Station. The double tracks are the Tweedmouth to Kelso “Main Line”.
Moments later the train arrives at Coldstream Station and draws through the station.
The engine in the station is ready to take the train onwards.
The picture on the right gives an indication of the complexity of the railway freight sidings. A map of these is available here

The final picture in this series shows the same passenger train (an enthusiasts special) about to leave for Kelso after the engine change. Health and Safety experts please cover your eyes for this picture!!
There are small prizes* for any further information, memories or the date of the train, click here to enter
The first four pictures have been taken from a film/video by Michael Clemens and our thanks go to him for his kind permission to use them (and especially for his direct provision of this final picture) here. Information on his forthcoming book covering local railways is here
Northumbrian Railways has a page devoted to Coldstream station here
* We welcome all information, especially from people with links to Cornhill. Whilst this is not a direct competition and the prizes are for encouragement, there will be a limit to those awarded, initially a “pot” of ten. This will be reviewed according to response. Decisions regarding award of prizes may be deferred to the Cornhill Village Hall Committee. Prizes may be collected (by arrangement) from the Cornhill Village Hall.
