Cornhill was on the Internet for the first time in 2001 (correct us if this is wrong).

Firstly:
Who can remember the Petrol Station by the roundabout and the separate business of "Station Garage Workshop" run by the ever jovial Alan Dry ?
The “Cornhill Portal” on the links page will guide you to the www.geograph.org.uk and pictures which show the old petrol station.
After closure of the Petrol Station the Workshop relocated to the old Auction Mart (which was demolished in 2006/7).
Alan is still in the trade and is now associated with the Ramparts MOT Centre in Berwick upon Tweed who are one of our sponsors.
Stepping back to October 2001 saw the Collingwood dip its toes into cyberspace with its own web pages on “bordersnet”.
Some may have memories of a very regimented regime of the time. Merely enjoying a drink in the bar was difficult with the organised shepherding of prospective diners to ensure the restaurant got its full 2 (or more) sittings each evening.
A marked contrast with the warm, welcoming and relaxed atmosphere of today.
And lastly and a step over the border into Scotland and the CYBERBARBER.
No, not an Internet based haircut (but do put “cyberbarber.co.uk” into your favourite search instrument) !
The proprietor, Chris Ditcham (supported by our webmaster), took a bold step and in early 2003 he offered open Internet access. Not an Internet cafe but...you guessed it!
It attracted the attention of Borders Television and featured in the news and also in a topical programme.
It was, probably, the first public Internet access in these parts. It proved very popular and was extensively used by residents, visitors and migrant workers during its 2 year life span. During this period the local library started open Internet access and the cyber barber facility closed.
You can still get your haircut there but not go on the Internet -
